Morakniv Bushcraft Black Specs
The Morakniv Bushcraft is a modern looking knife and the modernity of it goes much deeper than the surface. The knife is 9.1” in length, with 4.3 inches of that being all blade. The blade is notably narrower than the handle, making it easy to maneuver. It has a slight drop point design to it.
The blade is made out of Sandvik steel, a steel that Morakniv Bushcraft advertises as having excellent hardness. The company says that the steel has no large carbide deposits and this gives the steel the ability to take a very sharp edge. The steel is a high-carbon type, so be sure to care for it as you would any other high-carbon steel and to watch out for rust. The steel has a hardness of between 57 and 60 on the Rockwell scale.
The blade is 1/8” thick. This lends it plenty of strength.
The handle offers a great grip. It’s made out of rubber and this makes it excellent for situations where you may end up working in wet conditions. The handle has a front finger groove in it and the grip is designed so that it helps to prevent your hand from moving forward onto the cutting surface. This is not a full-tang design, so those who insist on as much may want to look at other options.
The sheath on this knife is excellent. It’s a black plastic material that is very durable. It comes with a diamond sharpener and a fire starter included. The fire starter is branded and is rated to produce 7,000 strikes. It works under wet conditions and the company says that it produces 3,000-degree sparks. The back of the blade is ground so that it can be easily used with the firestarter.
The price point on this knife is excellent, as is the case with many Morakniv products. It comes in at around $50.00. The other tools included make the deal a bit sweeter, still, and this is an excellent value that’s definitely worth exploring as a bushcraft knife option.Check On Amazon.com
What Is the Morakniv Bushcraft Good For?
It should be pointed out that the Morakniv Bushcraft really comes as a complete bushcraft kit of sorts, with three of the most vital tools you’d ever need in the wilderness being part of that kit. You get the Morakniv Bushcraft knife, the fire starter and the diamond sharpener. None of these items are cut-rate items that are tossed together to make each of them seem more valuable. These are all excellent quality items that come at a price point that is really pretty amazing, considering.
The Morakniv Bushcraft is, in the spirit of most of the offerings from this manufacturer, simple and to the point. It’s a very well-designed knife that’s made out of high-end materials. It’s not a $100+ knife, but not everyone needs such a blade. Because this isn’t a full-tang design and because the blade isn’t particularly wide or heavy, chopping should be considered out of the scope of work for this knife. It’s great for most any type of cutting, carving or other work and it does hold and edge. The sheath is excellent and the combination of the knife with the other items can certainly save room and lighten your load when you’re out in the woods.
Overall, this is a serious knife at a surprisingly low price. It’s something that’s worth trying and even those with $100 knives would do well to have something along the lines of the Morakniv Bushcraft around, as well.
